Black-Eyed Susan

* A friend and co-worker stopped by for a visit bearing cupcakes from Charm City Cupcakes and a cheerful bouquet of Black-Eyed Susans on Saturday. We had a lovely time sitting out on the front porch catching up while holding the boys and sipping my version of a frappuccino. It’s a great summertime dessert and can be made with light ice cream and chocolate syrup to cut down on the calories.

Super Iced Chocolate Cappuccino
2/3 cup chocolate syrup, chilled

2 cups cold coffee

2 cups vanilla ice cream

Whipped cream (optional)

Ground cinnamon (optional)

In blender, place syrup and coffee; blend on high speed. Add ice cream; cover and blend until smooth. Serve immediately and top with whipped cream and a dash of ground cinnamon.

* Last week I officially turned in my resignation. Yesterday I took the boys to the Walters to meet all my co-workers and see the Gee’s Bend exhibition that I’d worked on but wasn’t able to see through installation. It was great to see everyone but was a rather odd experience. It felt weird to leave without staying the whole day and doing work. I will certainly miss the institution and most of all the wonderful people I’ve worked with.

* The boys are smiling and starting to laugh. We go to extremes, acting like fools, to get them to smile. We’re quite addicted to their smiles.

* Owen rolled over today for the first time!

* I’m enjoying the dainty sound of wind chimes floating into the house on a summer breeze. My mom bought them for my birthday and I love the fairy-like quality of music it creates. It sounds so mystical.

I would love to watch you make a fool of yourself. What we do for our kids!

I bought wind chimes for myself this year. I do love the tinkly music when the breeze blows.

Love your painting. So nice. Your mood seems calming even with all the changes you are going through. I know you are enjoying your boys.

I was laughing at your frap recipe…I have been making my own too…I need the boost some afternoons to make it through the day. HEE HEE. Aaron keeps coming home seeing the blender out saying did you make another one? If anyone comes over I use it as an excuse…because it makes two. Yours sounds extra yummy though. I am gonna have to try it.

    Enjoy those chimes

Nice painting! :) You truly are amazing.

HOORAY for Owen! Is he bigger than Duncan or are they about the same size?

The coffee recipe sounds yummy. but we need to invest in a new blender…we registered for this really “nice” expensive blender when we got married and the thing stinks! We have used it probably 4 times. My cousin and her husband registered for the same one and wrote the company about how poorly it performed and NOTHING. Oh well.
Anyway, fun post and good to hear what you have been up too!

I AM feeling peaceful these days. And I’m enjoying the boys a ton. They’re just too cute.

Bethany, post your recipe too! Can’t have too many coffee recipes.

Thanks about the painting. I think I’m going to make it into a notecard because I need more stationary.

Sounds like my kind of coffe, thanks for posting it! It’s so fun to see kids accomplish goals. I remember encouraging Joel to roll over, sit up, crawl, walk, and then how too soon I wish he’d was a helpless baby who would let me hold him and stare at him. But, it is so neat to watch them grow up, and to look back and see how their personalities don’t change, just their size!

hi, my high school drama department is doing the play Flowers for Algernon, and i was curious to know if you would allow us to use your water color of the black eyed susan for out Show Shirt. It’s not a final decision, but it would be nice to have the option.

you can contact me via a myspace message (so i’m not giving out my personal e mail . . . ) thank you :)
