Bleak House
Everyone at work told me the BBC series was great. Libby told me the novel was fantastic. Then Girl Talk recommended it too.
So, I got Bleak House from the library. But beware. It’s addictive.
I didn’t realize how long it was when I started watching it, or how captivating it would be. But you get sucked in right away. From the moody music to the fabulous cinematography, it’s great. It doesn’t seem like the usual BBC/PBS mini-series either. It’s shot in a very fast-paced style with creative scene changes and interesting points-of-view with the camera. And as the mystery unravels, you’ll be mezmerized. So put aside a chunk of time to watch it, because it’s long but like a good book, you won’t be able to “put it down.”
hey nelly! yea i remember when Bleak House was on Masterpiece Theater on TV the only reason i didnt watch it, was because i didnt know it was a mystery, and it is by Charles Dickens, so i figured it might be boring…haha i guess i missed out. Now i’ll have to get it from the library!
:)
Now I’m really going to have to watch it. I saw girltalk had recommended it and was thinking about finding it at the library …
Oh, is it something I can watch when my girls are awake? Or would it be scary for them at all?
Ashleigh, it might be a little scary. Nothing “bad” is in it, but some of Dicken’s characters are little bizarre and might frighten them. There are 15 episodes, if I remember correctly, and each episode is pretty short, so you could probably get one or two in during nap time, if they take naps togther. Hope you enjoy it!
My library stinks!! I’m going to have to become independently wealthy just to buy all the videos I want to see that the library SHOULD have! ARGH!
I’m glad you tried the oatmeal and liked it. I think it has to be one of my favorites! I love to eat it any time of day, not just for breakfast. Even cutting the sugar, it still feels like a treat to me.
Maybe we’ll try “Bleak House” once the new season of “Amazing Race” has come to an end, which won’t be for a while b/c it just began. WE’re huge fans here: Sundays, 8 pm., CBS, if you’re interested.
Ashleigh — will this count as a “chick flick”? In other words, does this mean we get to watch some Harrison Ford, Humphrey Bogart, Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson, and/or Steven Seagal next time?
